Lessons in Gender

Today Zach was holding 2 plates, one yellow and one pink.
Zach: "Mom, which plate do you want? You are wearing a red shirt, so you need a red plate." He held out the pink plate but paused and looked at it. "This is pink, not red. Pink is for dwirls."
Me: "Pink is for girls, huh? How do you know that?"
Zach: "Because it's not for boys, this plate is not mine."
Me: "Who is a girl?"
Zach: "You are, Shea (not "mom"). So this plate is for you."
Me: "What about that pink bowl over there?" He had been eating from that bowl earlier.
Zach: "That's for dwirls. Pink is for dwirls."
Me: "So what color is for boys, then?"
Zach: "Um, yellow and green and blue"

Thank you Zach for the lesson in gender. This is the first time I've noticed him assign anything to boys and girls. Guess he's growing up.

I couldn't help but include this video. I got a kick out of it. Zach just happened to sneeze after he took a drink and Cade laughed. So Zach kept doing it and Cade kept laughing. I took this video after it had already been going on for several minutes. It finally occurred to me they weren't going to stop, so I went and grabbed the camera. When all the noise pauses before Zach "sneezes" it is because Zach is getting a drink. He thought he had to take a drink first or it wouldn't be funny. I didn't tell him he could just say "achoo." It continued for a few minutes after I shot the video, too.

Fun at the Classic Fun Center

We went to the Classic Fun Center with my parents' ward last week. They've really changed it since we were kids. Zach loved it. He got to ride his scooter around with his grandma on rollerblades. Then he got to play on the inflatables (he loved bouncing, not so much sliding, though) and climb through the jungle. He still talks about going "skating" with Grandma. It was a lot of fun for us all.

Can't Wait for Next Year...

3D Polar Express Party

Thank you to the Petersen kids for attending our 3D Polar Express party this Christmas Eve Eve. Obviously, we watched the Polar Express 3D which was projected onto the wall. The kids all got tickets, hot chocolate, and a bell to go with the movie. I think the kids got tired of the 3D glasses, but watched most of the movie anyway, taking them off and putting them back on throughout.

It was lots of fun!

Christmas Day

My 2 boys in front of the Christmas Tree on Christmas Morning. Zach woke up and made a bee line for the tree. He yelled, "Hey, presents! Santa came!" It was awesome. We had so much fun seeing the excitement of Christmas Day in our son. He was even lucky enough to get to open Cade's presents.

Cade sat in the walker and watched the Christmas festivities. He even got a little excited about some of his gifts. What a sweet and handsome dude, huh?

I like this picture because it shows how focused Zach was on his gifts. He didn't even know about all the commotion going on around him. He's the best!

Cade in a past life?

Last night we found some old pictures of Jake's. When he was growing up he had a bulldog named Bubba. Well, it just so happens, that we also call our baby Cade "Bubba." We just think it's a cute nickname. So, when we showed Zach the picture of Bubba the dog, he then showed Cade and said, "Look, Cade, this is what you looked like when you were a doggie." I tried to explain to him that they were not the same person, just shared a name. But it didn't sink in because he turned to Cade again and said, "This is what you will look like when you are a doggie." Later he told Jake that Cade was going to turn into a dog. You've got to love they way kids think...
